Heirusalem and Cally Eat Out: Hugger Mugger

On the way to Pennsic, on the way home, or just running errands, there are traditional and not-so-traditional Pennsic dining spots around Cooper’s Lake. Heirusalem and Cally from PI took a tour of some of these spots recently and had a few things to mention.

The Hugger Mugger has seen its fair share of management and owner changes. Throughout, it has maintained a fairly consistant menu and local ownership. The atmosphere is friendly, with plenty of seating, clean bathrooms, and cool air.

Open from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm seven days a week, they serve breakfast all day (with a large breakfast menu). The menu is eclectic, with American, Greek, and Italian items. Saturdays boast all-you-can-eat wings from 4-10 pm. (Heirusalem and Cally envisioned New Castle devoid of chicken wings as large fighters descended upon the Hugger Mugger).

They have daily specials and soups. Moms and Dads: There's a kid's menu, too! The desserts are nice and fresh with some good chocolate items and good pies. The House Salad is very good and has lots of good stuff on it.

Prices are mid range with great prices on the breakfast items and specials. There will be an ad in PI this year for 10% off, so watch for it!

Heirusalem's Favorites: Grilled Chicken Salad with Ranch Dressing (YUM!!!) or the Cheeseburger (Angus Beef with Cheddar Cheese!)

Cally's Favorites: Also the Grilled Chicken Salad, but hold the Curly Fries. The Cheesecake (very creamy with natural ingrediants. You can taste the cream cheese!)

An alert reader pointed out that we forgot to mention where to FIND the Hugger Mugger!!!

Hugger Mugger is located on Ellwood Road (The PA-65/Washington Street Exit from 422 west of Cooper's Lake), just before you reach the light to turn into the Kmart shopping plaza. (The one with the Wine and Spirits store. Yeah! That one!) It is right accross the street from the thrift stores. A great place to stop and take a break when running those important errands...

If you were at the Hugger

If you were at the Hugger Mugger, then you were right across the street from one of the best ice cream shops ever. Please review it, if you get the chance! I forget the name of it, but it is a small drive-up building at the front of the parking lot with the Big Lots store.

Great homemade ice cream, and lots of different flavors. Try the ice cream and cookie sandwich, but only if you're *really* hungry -- it's humungous!

Another interesting place to eat in the area is a small BBQ joint on Rt 108 in Slippery Rock. We were there a few years ago, so I can't say for sure if it's still open.

Where can we find this

Where can we find this restaurant? New Castle isn't *that* small...

Thanks, Jessa! I fixed it, and you can now find the Hugger Mugger! Loook for the Lighthouse on the sign!
