OG on “Home”

(Originally published in 2018. OG was on site for a few days. PI hosted a 21st birthday party for him. Folks came in off the road, both old friends or gentles who had never had a chance to meet the legend in person.

We did not know that it was his last Pennsic War. –Heirusalem)

“OG, welcome home” is the cry I have heard in the last few days and it is true. To many of us the other 50 weeks are just a long ice, beer,  and cash run. We all wash our garb and take a LONG hot shower. At Pennsic, I run into a person I haven’t seen in a year, we hug and start talking as if no time has passed at all. I guess that’s the way it is with good friends. There are always some friends who did not make it this year, an empty camp, or a missing face. We ask of their campmates Health problems, money, and transportation. The Evil mundane world.  Others, the Valkyrie have taken to Valhalla. Tonight I drink to them. I drink to them until I can drink with them. Then they buy the beer — no sad stories.

Pennsic is a magical place. Many of us have dreamed of making a motor home into a castle, with all the comfort of home. This would poison Pennsic for me. Part of the joy is no phone, no TV, no computer, radio, electric and no bills in my mailbox everyday.

Pennsic is great, be it 45 or 105. I love it! No need for heater, AC or artificial light. We have campfires, swimming holes and sunlight. Perfect.

“Hail and good fortune” is my cry! Glad you made it! Come in , sit down, relax, have a beer and some shade.

Lords and ladies charge your glasses and raise them high, to PENNSIC and to you!

WELCOME HOME!
