Eleven participants turned out for the Best of the Known World Tourney which welcomes Masters of Defense, holders of grant level rapier awards, Masters of Arms, and Knights to compete in a round-robin format with the top four fencers going into a double elimination best out of 3.

The four quarterfinalists were John Drake of Ansteorra, Aelwine Pyttel of the Midrealm, Cyrous of Æthelemearc, and Fernfeal of Atlantia. John Drake and Fernfeal of Atlantia advanced to the finals. John Drake won the finals in two passes.

MiC Lucia of Æthelmearc said that this tourney, run the cadets of Æthelmearc , is meant to allow the participants to show their best. The winner, John Drake, received a gift certificate to Darkwood Armory and said “I like this tourney because I like to challenge and be challenged.”

Sunday afternoon saw the Rapier Champions melee, which was run four times, once with Eastern and Midrealm Champions, once with Allies, once with everyone, and once with alternates. All battles except the “everyone” battle were 10 on 10. The Midrealm was victorious in all the battles, although there were some epic last stands by Nataliia and Prince Matthias. This was followed by the Heroic Champions, which had one-on-one bouts between rapier fighters, alternating with armored bouts. There were 20 rapier bouts, and the Midrealm won 13 as opposed to the East’s 7.

Youth Rapier is open from 9 to 1.
