Youth Rapier:
A 17 year old youth rapier fighter authorized Tuesday as an adult fencer (Ealdomere) after trying rapier for the first time at this Pennsic and attending youth practice every day since Wednesday of Peace Week.

In spite of the drizzly rain, 22 Fencers from 6 Kingdoms turned out for the By the Book Tourney, which showcases period rapier styles. Eight styles were represented: Fabris, I33, Talhoffer, Marrozo, Caranza, Meyer, d’All’Agocchie, and Cavendish.

The rain and thunder threatened, but were no match for the collective will of the Heavy fighters taking the field for the Bridge Battles. As dawn graced the fields below Mount Eislinn, the results of the Battlefield coordination team could be seen with five bridges in the open field. The test of mettle for the day would be five rounds of five bridges. The battles went quick—15 minutes to a battle and 10 to 15 minutes between each of the five battles.

It’s hard to talk about Pennsic’s long and storied history without one name coming to mind: Duke Sir Cariadoc of the Bow. A triple peer and a duke, many think of him as a legendary figure of the SCA. He has lived in multiple kingdoms, he is a talented bard and teacher, and he was there when Pennsic began.
Cariadoc has noted some changes that have taken place over the years.

Eleven participants turned out for the Best of the Known World Tourney which welcomes Masters of Defense, holders of grant level rapier awards, Masters of Arms, and Knights to compete in a round-robin format with the top four fencers going into a double elimination best out of 3.
The four quarterfinalists were John Drake of Ansteorra, Aelwine Pyttel of the Midrealm, Cyrous of Æthelemearc, and Fernfeal of Atlantia. John Drake and Fernfeal of Atlantia advanced to the finals. John Drake won the finals in two passes.
